Workshop details

As the date for the conference draws closer, we’re excited to be able to share some more details about the workshops which will be taking place on Saturday morning and afternoon.

The first session (11:00-12:00) will be run by Rita Faber, and will focus on how to incorporate other common instruments into a worshipful accompaniment of our Genevan tunes. This workshop will address the different roles that various instruments can play in the context of a small ensemble, and how their different characters can be used in an excellent, God-glorifying manner to bring out the beauty of our music.

The second session (1:00-2:00) will be run by Joanne Hordyk, and will turn our attention to the congregation’s role in church music. How can we learn to sing as the body of Christ, united in Spirit and in truth to bring our very best to praise our God? This workshop will include some antiphonal and part singing, placing the focus on the voices of the congregation as it gathers to offer prayer and praise in song.

The third session (2:15-3:15) will be in a panel discussion format, moderated by Joel Faber, in which our plenary speakers Dr. de Visser and Rev. Lodder will be joined by Martin Jongsma and Rev. John van Popta. Conference attendees will be invited to submit questions in advance, which will be used to prompt the panelists’ consideration of some of the key issues concerning music in our churches.
